A Holiday Thought

This has been building in my head over the last couple of years. Its been building, slowly, and as we approach the Holiday Season, its in the front of my mind again. So... I thought I'd share. *smiles* Just to let y'all know what's in my mind before the season of disagreement begins again.

Its a topic that some find a little touchy, I know... so read with patience, and please don't go flame on at the end of it...

I'm going to start in an odd place. )

Anyway... I'm spent now. *smiles*

Love to you all... and here's to a Holiday season full of fun.

(I so can't wait for Halloween!)

Justification: He Was Gay

[info]winterlion posted this in his journal, where he has more links if you're interested. However, for a generalized read of the incident, also including a number of links, I've included the below.

http://bookshop.livejournal.com/834653.html

The on-the-edge-of-being-men accused are using 'he was gay' as a defense after beating a man brutally over a very extended period of time that lead to his murder. No one else in the Indiana town he lives in seems to think of the victim as gay, but that's a solid part of their defense (evidently).

The details are somewhat graphic, just as a little forewarning.

The original posters are a bit confounded as to why this hasn't made news outside of Indiana. One part of me agrees with this sentiment... why haven't we heard of it? Another part of me wonders how many horrid things we don't hear of happen in our national community simply because we don't have enough space in our news (or because the pressure of that much badness would eventually crush us). The last part of me is just plain outraged... regardless of whether or not the guy was gay, the fact that they feel that they can justify what they did over the time period in which they did it as being okay by saying he was gay.
